Australian entrant ‘Pops Diabetes Care’ wins silver medal at Zurich Innovation Championship
Supporting diabetics to manage their condition via a mobile App

Zurich Insurance Group (Zurich) has announced the top three winners of its global ‘Zurich Innovation Championship’, with an entrant from the Australian competition round placing in the international finals for the second year in a row.
This year, US-based startup Pops Diabetes Care was named a Silver award winner, alongside North America-based Jupiter Intelligence. The Gold winner was announced as ClaimFlo, a processing platform for property and casualty claims developed by New York-based fintech Safekeep.
Pops Diabetes Care, who won the Australian competition round, offers diabetics an alternative to traditional blood sugar testing using a mobile phone App. The App allows those with diabetes to self-manage their condition with features including real-time glucose monitoring and virtual coaching.
Justin Delaney, CEO, Life & Investments, Zurich Australia, said, "Pops is an incredibly worthy winner. We really see the value in how this can make the lives of those managing diabetes or pre-diabetic conditions much easier. We are looking forward to piloting the Pops App, and exploring how it might help our customers manage and improve their health.”
Zurich’s Innovation Championship offers start-ups the opportunity to pitch innovative ideas, which might solve some of society’s biggest challenges and provide protection from emerging risks. The 2020 round featured more than 1,350 entrants.
Pops Diabetes Care and the other medal-winners of the Zurich Innovation Championship will receive:
- Funding to bring their proposition to life
- The opportunity to test their solutions on potential customers
- Access to insurance experts and Zurich senior Executives
- Publicity and recognition that will increase their visibility in the market
- The opportunity to scale their partnership to Zurich globally
Depending on the success of their initial pilot, Zurich will look to strategically integrate the Pops proposition for international customers.
