Zurich and OnePath Life commit to supporting frontline healthcare workers
Inaugural signatories to the FSC’s commitment for providing life insurance for those contributing to the fight against COVID-19
Zurich Life & Investments continues its support and commitment to the Financial Services Council’s (FSC’s) industry commitment for providing life insurance to those frontline healthcare workers who are supporting Australians through the fight against COVID-19.
The FSC Life Insurance Committee’s commitment:
- Provides surety to medics, nurses, emergency personnel including paramedics and police, aged care workers and other healthcare professionals, that they will not be precluded from accessing life insurance on the basis of their exposure or potential exposure to the Coronavirus.
- Applies to new underwritten applications for individual life insurance benefits, up to a financial threshold. Healthcare workers can opt to take out life insurance beyond these thresholds by purchasing additional cover on top, and going through underwriting processes.
- As of 27 July 2020, this commitment was extended to 1 January 2021.
Justin Delaney, CEO, Zurich Life & Investments, said, “We are pleased to be doing our part to provide some reassurance and consistency to healthcare workers that they can access life insurance cover, should they need it.
“Maintaining service levels for customers at this stressful time is a primary focus for us at Zurich and OnePath. We have taken additional measures to protect our employees and equip them with the business tools so that they can continue to support all customer claims, applications and other customer support needs,” he said.
