Careers Privacy Statement
Before providing us with any personal or sensitive Information (‘Information’) on the Zurich website (“Tool”), Zurich needs to make you aware of the following matters:
In this privacy statement, references to "Zurich", "we", "our" and "us" means Zurich Financial Services Australia Limited and its related bodies corporate. Zurich is bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and respects your privacy.
When applying for a job at Zurich, we need to collect information about you such as your name, contact details, resume, employment history, referees, details of your eligibility for employment (including residency status) and any other information that may be required as part of the recruitment or employment process.
We may also need to collect sensitive information such as information relating to your health, medical or criminal record.
We need the Information to:
- assess your application for employment with us;
- consider you for other opportunities at Zurich (unless you inform us otherwise);
- manage the recruitment process generally such as using the Information for internal reporting, statistical and operational purposes connected with our recruitment and employment processes;
- carry out background checks on all applicants for all positions; and
- manage your employment relationship with us if you are successful together referred to as the purposes of collection (“Purposes”).
If you choose not to provide us with the Information or don’t agree with the Purposes set out above, we will not be able to consider or process your application.
In order for Zurich to fulfil the Purposes set out above, we will, if required, disclose your Information to:
- other Zurich companies within the Zurich group in Australia and overseas. Overseas Zurich companies are located all over the world.
- third party service providers on a confidential basis. These are service providers we use to assist in the recruitment process as well as to provide other services in connection with the operation of our business such as website hosting, recruitment agencies, located both in Australia and overseas and agencies that carry out background checks on the Information you provide to us such as qualifications, employment history and other matters (see ‘Other things you need to know about’ below);
- anyone you have authorised us to deal with (such as referees); and
- where we otherwise are required or permitted by law to collect or disclose.
The Information we collect and hold will generally be stored electronically in our secure data centres located in London and Frankfurt.
We use a range of security measures to protect the Information we hold (both electronically and paper files) and take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify any Information that we cannot or can no longer be used.
By providing us with your Information and proceeding with your application using the Tool, you confirm that you have read and understand this privacy statement , you consent to the required background checks and to the use and disclosure of your Information in accordance with the requirements we have set out.

Other things you need to know about
- If you provide us with information relating to another individual as part of the application, unless otherwise allowed by law, we will delete or de-identify this information. If you have provided us with information relating to other persons that we may have requested for (such as referees) please inform them that you have disclosed their information to us, ensure you have their consent and direct them to the Zurich Privacy Policy as indicated above and this privacy statement.
- Where you have made an application using the Tool, you may directly delete any Information you have provided at any time by using the “delete” feature on the Tool. By doing this, your account and access to your personal and career information will be deleted permanently from the Tool. Some Information as part of the recruitment process may be kept for legal or auditing purposes.
- We may delete your Information from the Tool and our other records if we believe you have breached any of the recruitment and screening conditions set out below.
- When using the Tool, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account registration and password. You are responsible for all uses of your registration, whether or not authorised by you. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorised use of your registration or password. You agree to not use the Tool inappropriately, act dishonestly or deliberately misrepresent or omit any relevant information.
- All information submitted in and forming part of your application must be true and correct. If you believe the Information we hold about you is inaccurate, incomplete or not up to date; as an alternative to contacting us directly, we encourage you to use the Tool to ensure the Information is updated so that it is current, accurate and complete.
- Examples of background checks we undertake includes criminal history, bankruptcy, educational qualifications, employment history, qualifications, references, ID validation, credit history, court search, banned persons, and directorships. The type of checks we undertake will depend on the position for which you apply.
- An offer of employment will not be deemed valid unless such offer is formally made in writing by an authorised officer of Zurich. Any offer of employment will not be deemed to have been accepted until a copy of the written offer is signed by you and received by Zurich.
- If requested by us, you may be required to produce documentary evidence of your visa status or your right to work in Australia or the relevant country to which the application relates to.
