How the right cover—and the right adviser—can change everything

Fashion logistics boss Con Christodoulou had built a thriving business and full family life. Then came the moment that shattered both.

A workplace incident left him with post-traumatic stress he tried to suppress for five years. Eventually, it all spilled out—in front of his adviser, Mia Inglis.

“I broke down in front of her… She said, ‘You need help. This is trauma,’” Con recalls.

Years earlier, it had been Mia’s father who helped him set up income protection and TPD cover. Now it was Mia guiding him through the claim.

The claim that changed everything

Mental-health-related claims can be complex, but Mia was with Con every step.

She handled all the relevant paperwork, coordinated with doctors, and managed the communications with Zurich.

“You’re in the middle of so many parties… You balance the client’s expectations with the insurer’s process,” she says.

Then the call came.

“When they told me my claim was accepted, it was a huge relief,” Con says. “It validated that my trauma was real.”

What it really paid for

The payout kept four kids at school, held the mortgage steady, and gave Con time to focus on therapy instead of survival.

“It let me step away without the stress of running the business or pretending I was okay,” he says.

For Mia, one moment stood out: the three-way call with her dad and Con when the claim came through.

“There were tears all round,” she says.

But the biggest shift?

“It helped restore his sense of self,” Mia says. “Con’s identity was being a provider. This gave him a way to still be that—while stepping back.”

What real support looks like

“This wasn’t just another claim,” Mia says.

When it came time to act, she became more than just an adviser: Part translator. Part advocate. Part support system.

“The goal isn’t just to get the claim approved. It’s to make sure clients feel seen and supported through it.”

Three things Con and Mia want you to know

  1. Don’t wait.
“Life is unpredictable,” Con says. “Had I not had insurance, life would have been very different”.
  2. Find an adviser who gets you.
Mia didn’t just help with paperwork. She helped Con really understand the process, standing by him the whole way.
  3. You are your most important asset.
“You insure your house, your car… but what about you?” says Con.

The final word

This wasn’t just about a payout. It was about time. Dignity. And having someone to walk the hard path with you.

It all came down to a decision Con made a decade ago and someone who knew him well enough to say, “This is trauma.”

Because the real purpose of insurance isn’t fear. It’s not worst-case-scenario thinking. It’s making sure that if life veers off track, you’re not left to navigate it alone.

Not with a stranger. Not as a number. But with someone who already knows your story.

We don’t just cover, we care

Trauma can derail life in an instant. Having quality cover—and someone who knows how to help you use it—can make all the difference.

At Zurich, we’re proud to support advisers and their clients with the protection they need to navigate the hardest moments. For the day it matters, and every day after.
