Zurich Australia supports breast cancer awareness
Zurich Financial Services Australia (Zurich) today announced, for the second year in a row, it will replace its logo on the front of Melbourne Football Club (MFC) AFL run out t-shirts with the names of individuals impacted by breast cancer.
In collaboration with Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) and in support of ‘PLAY4BCNA’ during the AFL Round 22 ‘Pink Lady Match’ on 10 August, Zurich has selected 45 individuals from hundreds of public nominations whose names will be displayed on the t-shirts.
Zurich also announced a $20,000 donation to BCNA to assist with funding essential support services, resources and advocacy programs for individuals and families affected by breast cancer.
Cancer was the second most common cause for a life insurance claim at Zurich in 2024*, representing more than 20 per cent of all claims and resulting in nearly $500 million in claims payments. Breast cancer accounted for approximately one in five of these cancer claims.
Linda Griffin, Head of Brand, Marketing & Corporate Affairs, Zurich said: “Zurich is incredibly proud to support this important cause for the second year in a row, after successfully raising funds and community awareness for BCNA in 2024.”
“Breast cancer impacts the lives of Zurich’s customers and employees in communities all around Australia. As we see incidence continue to rise, it is important that we continue to shine a light on this issue and recognise those who are impacted,” Ms Griffin said.
David Chippindall, Chief Executive Officer, MFC said: “This initiative is a wonderful collaboration, and we’re grateful to Zurich for supporting our long-standing partnership with BCNA and helping bring this important cause to the forefront.”
“Having our AFL players wear the name of someone impacted by breast cancer offers an important opportunity to highlight the critical work that BCNA do. In Round 22, we’re not just playing for points – we’re playing for every person impacted by breast cancer,” Mr Chippindall said.
Kirsten Pilatti, Chief Executive Officer, BCNA said: “BCNA is very grateful to Zurich for generously donating their logo space on the MFC warm-up tops in recognition of those impacted by breast cancer. This serves as a symbol and pays tribute to everyone who has been diagnosed with the disease, including those living with metastatic (incurable) breast cancer, and those who have lost their lives.”
This year, a select number of players will display the names of individuals they personally nominated, including: Steven May, who will display the name of his mother-in-law; Max Gawn, displaying his Aunty; and Clayton Oliver, wearing the name of MFC’s former physio.
