Daisy Pearce talks protection, planning, and peace of mind

Daisy Pearce has a better handle on the concept of health and wellbeing than most. As a professional athlete she understands the importance of being kind to - and listening to - her own body. And as a qualified midwife she has spent many days helping mothers bring precious new lives into the world.

In both roles she has also seen what happens when our health suffers, and the way that lives can be disrupted if the right support mechanisms aren’t in place.

“When I was growing up, my mother suffered breast cancer, before she had even turned 40. Going through treatment caused great upheaval in her life, and in our lives as a family”.

So, when Daisy and partner Ben welcomed their beautiful twins - Sylvie and Roy - into the world, she was determined that, in the event of some major health issue, the right financial support mechanisms were all in place.

Her first step was to approach her adviser Miguel Frances, of PNOlife to talk through the options available.

“To say it was an eye opener is a massive understatement,” said Daisy.

“We had no clue about the different types of life insurance available, and the different risks they all protect against. There’s income protection for example, which covers you if you are temporarily disabled and can’t work. Or Trauma insurance, which pays out if you suffer a serious illness like a cancer.”

“Our adviser Miguel also talked us through the insurance cover we already have through our super funds, which we weren’t really aware of, and how it fell short of our needs, now we have Sylvie and Roy. He then took us through the various ways we could fill some of those gaps.”

“If something were to happen and either Ben or I couldn’t work for a period of time, what would prop us up would be things like knowing our children are happy and healthy, having a secure roof over our heads, maybe even getting up to my mother’s house on the coast to recuperate. They are the little things that are a normal part of our everyday lives, but which all need money. “

Whilst, by her own admission, she and Ben found planning ahead an emotional journey, she’s never been one to shirk her responsibilities, and believes the peace of mind of having the right plans in place is just priceless.

“The last thing you would need at a time like that is financial stress. Getting the right insurance in place, it will give us the comfort of knowing that, even if something drastic happened, we wouldn’t need to reinvent the whole of our lives because of money issues, and instead we can focus on getting well again”.
