December 12, 2019 | Risk Pulse

Thank you to all our partners

With 2019 in the rear-view mirror, the changes our industry has endured are now presenting the opportunities we must embrace in 2020. It was truly a pleasure this year to be part of so much positive collaboration with our industries bodies, our fellow insurers and our retail and investment partners and what has shone through is our continued willingness to adapt and thrive within a shifting and challenging advice landscape.

As we close out the year, we must bid farewell to Tim Bailey who leaves the sunny shores of Australia for Europe this week to take up a new role within the Zurich Group. On behalf of the whole Australian team I want to thank Tim for all the success we have achieved over the past 5 years, and the strong foundations we have in place for the future.

On a positive note, we welcome Justin Delaney, our new Life and Investments CEO to the role. I am excited to introduce our partners to Justin in the first half of next year, with a busy schedule already planned, I know that Justin is looking forward to having the chance to meet everyone. Keep a lookout in the new year for your invitation to our National Adviser Showcase which will be a great opportunity to hear from Justin directly.

I know one of the highest priorities for Justin will be regarding last week’s APRA recommendations regarding IDII. Here at Zurich, we welcome efforts made to ensure the long-term sustainability of a product which is vital for protecting the financial security of Australians.

Zurich will comply with all regulatory changes and take time to review other recommendations and consider their consequences. Our ongoing commitment remains to maximise the accessibility, affordability and range of choice of quality life insurance cover available to our customers.

This commitment was evident at the recent FPA congress in Melbourne, where I had the opportunity to meet and discuss our various propositions with over 1,300 delegates. It was encouraging to see such a strong and diverse showing and reaffirmed to me why Zurich’s belief in financial advice will only continue to strengthen in 2020.

It was also a wonderful opportunity for us to launch our combined education platform, _ZONE. We understand that educational requirements are top of mind for advisers and we’ve been listening to feedback to develop our education platform with cutting-edge technology to bring advisers a brand-new learning experience.

By March 2020, _ZONE will be fully operational through an online learning platform that will guide advisers through options to tailor and schedule a year of professional development. For a quick summary of what _ZONE has to offer, please read the article within this edition.

_ZONE is the first of many initiatives that will bring together the combined strengths of both Zurich and OnePath to deliver market-leading innovations to help drive your operations forward. We will continue to develop and invest our brands and propositions in 2020 to ensure we deliver on the promises we make to you and your clients.

2019 has been our biggest year yet, highlighted by both our propositions being named as winners in several high-profile categories at the annual AFA Life Company of the Year awards and Consumer Choice awards

Life Company of Year

  • Winner - Service Quality Award – Zurich
  • Winner – Claims team - OnePath
  • Winner – BDM team – Zurich
  • Runner Up – Life Insurer of Year – OnePath

Consumer Choice

  • Return to health and wellness – OnePath
  • Claims turnaround time – Zurich

These awards are voted on by advisers and consumers and as such represent an extremely pleasing acknowledgement that our hard work is paying dividends – everyone across the business plays a part in delivering our customer experience to market, so I would like to say ‘congratulations all’!

The final event of what has been a very busy 2019 was our Leaders Forum in Sydney & Melbourne last week. With a jam-packed agenda covering critical industry topics, a real highlight was the coming together of the both the AFA & FPA as well as the current adviser of the year, Simone De Chesne for a Mental health summit hosted Zurich’s head of mental health, Maria Falas. As you are aware, this is a topic I am a passionate advocate for, and it was heart-warming to see the issue take centre stage with our leaders leading a robust and thought-provoking panel designed to educate licensees and key stakeholders on such an important issue. Please read our wrap up for more information.

And with that, I would like to personally thank our partners, who made 2019 a year to remember at Zurich Life and Investments, and before we forge forward into 2020, I hope you are able to give yourself a well-earned break and you are able to spend quality time and focus on the things in your life that mean the most to you.

Have a safe and happy holiday season

Kris
