Welcome to Macquarie Life Advisers

Welcome to Zurich

A new look, the same exceptional service.

On 1 October 2016, Zurich Australia Limited (Zurich) formally acquired Macquarie Life’s risk business including FutureWise, Active and Sumo.

Zurich extends a warm welcome to those distribution partners who have previously supported Macquarie Life and of course transferred Macquarie Life policyholders. From 1 October you will see Zurich branding replace Macquarie Life across all touchpoints. But the changes aren’t just cosmetic. Macquarie Life policyholders can now achieve the peace of mind that comes from being protected by the strength of a global insurance specialist.

This includes:

  • Quality cover and award winning value for money
  • Five-star customer care
  • Tools and support that can improve your efficiency
  • Independent insurer and longstanding adviser advocate
  • A household name, with global and local brand strength

Naturally Zurich will honour the terms and conditions of all transferred policies and will continue to offer both customers and advisers the same five-star award winning service to which they are accustomed.

No action needed by existing policyholders

Existing Macquarie Life policies will continue to operate in the same way, meaning nominated payment methods will remain in place without any policyholder action required.

Everything you need to know.

Zurich FutureWise, Zurich Active and Zurich Sumo

At this point, we continue to offer FutureWise, Active and Sumo – but it will be offered under the Zurich brand, while we work to transition fully across to Zurich. The full transition of products across to Zurich’s ZXpress quote and application platform is expected to be completed in May 2017.

At that time, our plan is to cease promoting FutureWise for new business, in favour of an enhanced Zurich Wealth Protection product. However, while not promoted for new business, we propose that FutureWise will remain functional for all existing policyholders, meaning they can:

  • Benefit from an automatic upgrade guarantee, ensuring they can automatically take advantage of any enhanced features, benefits and definitions which do not increase premiums (similar to the upgrade promise currently made to FutureWise policyholders)
  • Make amendments to their cover, including sums insured and ownership status
  • Sdd optional extras to their policy

Sumo and Active are an excellent complement to the Zurich product set and our commitment is to continue to offer, and where possible improve, these products in the future.

If you have a claim underway, the same team will continue to look after that claim as previously. While responsibility for assessing and administering claims has now passed to Zurich it does not affect the way we handle claims, either new or existing. To make a new claim, you can fill out this online form or contact us directly at insurance.claims@zurich.com.au or on 1800 208 130.

What systems do I need to use to quote and apply?

For Zurich FutureWise, Zurich Active and Zurich Sumo products please use Insurance Online. For Zurich Wealth Protection please use ZXpress. For more information on quote and apply click here. There are long term plans to migrate all products onto one Zurich platform in 2017 and advisers will be kept informed on the progress of this integration project.

What do I do if I'm experiencing issues downloading ZXpress?

If you are experiencing issues downloading ZXpress it could be because you are operating on a Mac or experiencing firewall issues. Please contact 1800 500 655 for help.

Will the Macquarie and Zurich application and Life Insured Statement/Personal Statement be interchangeable?

No. From 1 October until early May 2017 the quote and apply process will be via two systems, Zurich's ZXpress and Macquarie's Insurance Online. During this period, the only change to the ex-Macquarie system will be re-branding. This means the Life Insured Statement/Personal Statement will be virtually unchanged, and continue to be product-specific.

Will there be an increase in premiums on Macquarie business through the change?

No changes to premium rates were introduced on 1 October.

Will the current Zurich product continue or will it be closed to new business in the near future?

Zurich Wealth Protection will continue to be offered with plans to further enhance it in 2017. We believe Zurich Wealth Protection will be well complemented by the addition of Zurich FutureWise, Zurich Active and Zurich Sumo.

What will happen to the applications already in suspense prior to 1 October?

Any applications in suspense will continue to be processed as usual. The only change is that all policies issued from 1 October 2016 will be issued by Zurich Australia Limited under the Zurich brand, even if the paperwork at the time of application was to Macquarie Life Limited under the Macquarie Life brand.

Can I sell to overseas residents?

Zurich only offers insurance cover to Australian residents who apply for insurance from within Australia.  This is an existing rule for Zurich Wealth Protection which will also apply to Zurich FutureWise, Zurich Active and Zurich Sumo from 1 October 2016.

Can I still use Quick Quote?

Yes, you can continue to use Quick Quote, it can be downloaded here. End-to-end quoting functionality is available through Insurance Online.

How do I obtain my commission report?

Zurich will continue to send through commission reports for Wealth Protection products. Commission reports for Zurich FutureWise, Zurich Active and Zurich Sumo will be sent to you via email by Macquarie.

Who will pay my commission going forward?

Macquarie will administer the payment of commission on in-force business on behalf of Zurich, until the finalisation of the transfer of business to Zurich, which is anticipated to be 1 November 2017.  From early to mid 2017 all new business will be written on the Zurich systems and therefore will be paid by Zurich.

Do Zurich and Macquarie’s commission structures differ?

Yes. Zurich Wealth Protection products will continue to offer the existing Zurich commission structures. Commission structures for Zurich FutureWise, Zurich Active and Zurich Sumo will be the same as those that applied when these products were issued by Macquarie Life.
