Zurich partnership to improve quality of strategic life insurance advice

Zurich Financial Services Australia Limited (Zurich) today announced details of a new partnership with Melbourne-based life insurance coaching and strategy specialist, 19Thirty.

The partnership will see the creation and delivery of a series of workshops ‘Cracking the Life Insurance Code’, designed to help strengthen the quality and accessibility of life insurance advice in the Australian market.

In announcing the partnership, Andy Marshall, Head of Sales Strategies and Research for Zurich’s Life and Investments business, observed that addressing Australia’s chronic underinsurance issue relied on making quality advice as accessible as possible.

“Whilst much of the market reaction to last year’s ASIC report into life insurance focused on adviser remuneration, that report also acknowledged the vital role advisers play in delivering important outcomes for clients, whilst stressing a clear need for programs which strengthen adviser skills in engaging clients, making strategic recommendations, and improving consumer financial literacy,” he said.

“Our partnership with 19Thirty is predicated on the notion that by increasing the number of advisers actively providing life insurance advice – and by helping strengthen the quality of that advice – consumers will be encouraged to seek expert help, rather than simply relying on default coverage, or worse still, doing nothing,” said Mr. Marshall.

These detailed, practical workshops, each worth 18 CPD points, will cover three main topics:

  • Insurance Strategy;
  • Insurance Philosophy; and
  • Insurance Process.

Melissa Crawford, Principal of 19Thirty and program architect, developed her passion for life insurance through personal experience and through working in the industry in a variety of senior roles. Her ultimate goal is to turn everyone into an advocate for the ‘promise’ that life insurance represents.

“That aspiration of supporting advisers in developing strategy and process around life insurance so they can deliver on this promise for all Australians is something I'm incredibly passionate about and so the culture of Zurich was an important element in this partnership,” said Ms. Crawford.

“There's been a meeting of minds and a genuine spirit of collaboration and shared passion around the end goal,” she said.

The workshops will run throughout 2015.
